SOLIDARITY WITH THE TEACHERS’ STRUGGLE IN GERMANY

The Greek nationwide secretariat of teachers of PAME welcomes the strikes of teachers working in the Primary and Secondary Education in Germany. We express our support and our solidarity. The participation in the strike is impressive and its keeps expanding in more federal states of the country.

The 200.000 contractual teachers working under the simple clerical regime are determined to continue their strike, despite the difficulties they face, since there is a strict governmental prohibition of the strike for the 800.000 permanent teachers, because of their permanent public servant status.

After the integration of the GDR, the grand majority of teachers coming from the eastern federal states have lost their public servant status, a measure which was expanded during the following years all over Germany. As a result, apart from the fact that dozens of thousands of primary and secondary education teachers receive lower salaries, there are many newly-recruited teachers, who work with fixed-term contracts and are dismissed before the summer holidays in order to be re-hired in autumn, on grounds of saving money. The directions of OECD, the policy of the EU, the filthy flexible work conditions are still implemented in all European countries, no matter if they have a memorandum or not.

The reactionary measures implemented in Germany and in our country have a common purpose, the capitalist outlet that wants teachers, as well as the whole working class to be satisfied with less and less rights and demands.

The class-oriented unionist movement of teachers in our country, member of the World Federation of Teachers’ Union (FISE), expresses its solidarity with the German teachers who struggle. The demands for salary raise and for the signing of collective contracts of employment, which will reassure their retirement rights, are fair and must be satisfied.
