FISE (WFTU) Global Solidarity Week with Cuba, April 6-12, 2026

The General Secretariat of the World Federation of Teachers’ Unions (FISE), affiliated with the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU FSM), calls on all FISE member and partner teachers’ and education unions to participate massively in the Global Solidarity Week with Cuba, which will be held from April 6 to 12, 2026.
Context: Necessary Solidarity
This initiative responds to the call from the WFTU FSM Secretariat, which has declared an International Week of Action in solidarity with Cuba. Cuban people. This decision is motivated by:
1) The intensification of imperialist aggressions, including the massacres and genocide perpetrated against the Palestinian people in Gaza, as well as the military attacks and aggressions carried out by the United States, with the support of the EU, NATO and their allies, against Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and the threat of a war of aggression against Iran. Not to mention the attempts to destabilize Venezuela.
2) The decades-long intensification of US imperialist attacks against socialist Cuba, notably through a total economic blockade that stifles supplies, particularly oil, condemning the Cuban people to a state of absolute energy poverty.
Faced with this imperialist arrogance and in support of the Cuban people’s resistance, FISE is mobilizing.
Position and actions of FISE
The General Secretariat of the World Federation of Teachers’ Unions (FISE):
- Welcomes this militant initiative of solidarity from the international working class with the Cuban people and against the arrogance of US imperialism.
- Demands the immediate and unconditional lifting of the embargo and comprehensive sanctions imposed on Cuba since 1962 by imperialism.
- Salutes the great and historic resistance of the Cuban people who, despite these difficulties, have developed an effective, public, and free education and healthcare system, serving all of humanity.. Cuba welcomes students from many countries and sends doctors around the world, particularly during major health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ebola epidemic, thus demonstrating its role in solidarity with the defense of the sovereignty of peoples.
- Reaffirms FISE’s unconditional solidarity with the people of Cuba, the Central Workers of Cuba (CTC), and Cuban education workers.
- Calls on all teachers’ and education unions, members and friends of FISE, to actively participate in the Week of Global Solidarity with Cuba (April 6-12, 2026) by implementing the following actions:
Action Plan for Unions
- Practical and Material Support: Provide the Cuban people with tangible support to help them resist and overcome the difficulties caused by the criminal blockade.
- Mobilization and Awareness-Raising: Launch appeals at all levels (union branches, teachers, students, anti-imperialists, etc.) to solidify and broaden solidarity with Cuba.
- Public Actions of Protest and Solidarity: Organize the following in front of US embassies, in public squares, workplaces, or in front of/at the offices of unions and associations:
- Rallies, demonstrations, sit-ins, and protest actions.
- Information and awareness-raising conferences and meetings.
- Prepare the necessary materials: Flags of the Socialist Republic of Cuba, the WFTU, and the FISE, placards, banners. Film and photograph these actions, and write reports of class solidarity declarations to amplify their impact.
- Fundraising and Material Collection: Organize the collection of essential funds and supplies (school and medical supplies, medicines, etc.). The money and goods collected by the member organizations of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU FSM) will be channeled through the Central Workers of Cuba CTC to provide direct relief to Cuban workers in businesses and workplaces, which have been severely affected by electricity and fuel shortages.
- Political Demand: Demand the immediate and unconditional end of the imperialist blockade against Cuba, and the absolute respect for the sovereignty and right to self-determination of the Cuban people.
Long live the WFTU! Long live the FISE! Long live the CTC and the Cuban people!
Hands off Cuba! Cuba is not alone! Long live international trade union solidarity!
