Following the success of the strike and demonstrations by public education staff in Catalonia on February 11, 2026, and faced with government inaction, four trade unions have launched a new call for a strike and mobilization from Monday, March 16 to Friday, March 20, 2026.
The organizations behind this movement are:
1. USTEC·STEs (IAC): Unió Sindical dels Treballadors i Treballadores de l’Ensenyament de Catalunya.
2. ASPEPC·SPS: Union of Secondary School Teachers.
3. CGT Ensenyament: Confederació General del Treball – Ensenyament. The education branch of the General Confederation of Labor,
4. Intersindical-CSC: Intersindical Alternativa de Catalunya – Confederació Sindical Catalana /Ensenyament.
A mobilization for structural changes
This new mobilization, entitled “Vaga Educativa Per Territoris” (Educational Strike by Territories), aims to defend the public education system against job insecurity and government inaction.
It reflects deep discontent with the deteriorating working conditions and state of public schools.
Under the slogan “Prou! Millores laborals ja” (“Enough! Professional improvements now!”), the strikers are demanding immediate structural and financial changes, summarized in four key points:
• + Salari: A wage increase.
- + Resources: More resources for schools.
- – Administrative burden: A significant reduction in administrative costs.
- – Class sizes: A decrease in the number of students per class.
A progressive geographical organization
The distinctive feature of this protest action lies in its territorial deployment, targeting specific areas each day before culminating in a unified demonstration in Barcelona:
- Monday, March 16: Strike in Baix Llobregat, Consorci, and Barcelonès.
- Tuesday, March 17: Tarragona, Terres de l’Ebre, and Penedès.
- Wednesday, March 18: Lleida, the Pyrenees, and Central Catalonia.
Thursday, March 19: Maresme, Vallès Oriental, Vallès Occidental, and Girona.
Friday, March 20: The strike spreads throughout Catalonia and culminates in a unified demonstration in Barcelona.

The World Federation of Teachers’ Unions (FISE), a member of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU FSM), reiterates its full solidarity with the teachers, educational staff, students, and families who are fighting today for a free, secular, inclusive, and adequately funded public education.
