FISE SOLIDARITY MESSAGE WITH THE ECUADORIAN TEACHERS ON HUNGER STRIKE

FISE, the World Federation of Teachers Union, an affiliated member of WFTU expresses its solidarity and support with the Ecuadorian Teachers who are staging a hunger strike demanding that Ecuador’s Constitutional Court (CC) ratify the Intercultural Education Law (LOEI).

FISE and teachers around the world support the protest of the members of the National Union of Educators (UNE) and their struggle for the ratification of the law that would improve the quality of education for Indigenous youth it would increase the teachers’ salaries and reinstate the workers who were dismissed during the COVID-19 health emergency.

We condemn the effort of the government and the governmental organizations, as well as of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) who, through their action, are trying to suspend the implementation of this law, which was to enter into force in early July.

We stand by the Ecuadorian Teachers and we demand that their claims be heard.

We support the struggles of teachers for equal and free education for all the children of the working class around the world.
