Major strike of teachers in Tunisia
The World Federation of Teachers Union, FISE, a member of the WFTU, sends a message of solidarity and at the same time congratulates both the secondary and primary education teachers in Tunisia, who on 28th March held a major strike. The 98% of the educational institutions in Tunisia took part in the strike, answering to the refusal of the Ministry of Education to respond to their demands.
Tunisian teachers are reacting to the Government’s cuts under the IMF’s mandates and they demand:
An increase of expenditure for education, increase in salaries, lowering the retirement age, equal access for all children to free education, and second chance schools.
Fellow militants, your struggles give impetus to the world trade union movement of teachers.
We stand by you.
Great success in your struggles
