The unions of employees in Education in Serbia announced that “because of the fact that the Education is worth that ever, all 4 of the unions are demonstrating on Wednesday 22/10”. The unions demanded from the government not to cut the funds for education, as well as a new collective contract.
Slombodan Brajkovic, head of the unions, mentioned that, since they have been cheated twice by both the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of State Administration, they do not have another choice, but to protest and go on strike, inviting all the employees in Education to participate.
After a relatively small salary increase until 2008, when the teachers’ earnings reached the expected, their salary has been reduced so much that today, the teacher’s salary in primary school and junior high school is barely 39.000 dinars, that is 416 dolars, which is much lower that the average basic salary.
