Solidarity message to Colombian teachers
Dynamic strike action on May 9th and 10th is organized by the Colombian Federation of Teachers FECODE. At the same time, trade unions take organizational and information initiatives by organizing conferences, artistic and cultural interventions.
The government has cut down resources for education by 60 million, resulting in downgrading infrastructure in education, lack of teachers in the schools, impoverishment of the health system. The new contract that teachers’ unions are called upon to sign is subordinate to the previous one.
The World Federation of Teacher Unions FISE, a member of the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), representing the working class movement among teachers, sends a solidarity message to the FECODE Federation. The struggle of teachers to improve their working terms so that the educational system meets the needs of working class children is a struggle for all workers. Together teachers, parents, students, trade unions can and must strengthen the struggles.
