International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Fellow workers in education

We know that on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, many organizations will make also this year announcements and percentages that will indicate the barbarous manner of the exploitation, abuse and violence against women. These announcements will only mention the results of violence, hiding the truth for the real causes why violence increases and why always the highest percentages of the victims are women.

The violence exists around us has got many faces; some of them are obvious and conceivable while others are hidden behind beautiful ornaments.

Some of the forms of violence are physical or mental abuse, hunger, poverty, narcotics, abolition of rights, compulsion to submit to logics counter to your class and the highest percentage of the victims are women within all the exploitative societies. Violence is also not being able to attend lessons in schools and being abused just because you are woman.

FISE calls upon all the class-oriented trade unions, the teachers across the world to teach students the truth. To highlight the causes that feed and increase violence. To make students realize that behind the bad and violent people big interests are hidden, are hidden all these who earn from imperialism, aggressive wars, drug trafficking and exploitation. Are hidden International Organizations which devote one day of the year for the elimination of violence against women while the remaining 364 days are mere spectators of the double inequity and of the multiple exploitation of women.

FISE, the class-oriented international organization of teachers together with the trade unions which are friends and members of the WFTU, will continue the organized struggle for the elimination of violence. FISE will continue the struggle to defend the rights of women, children and of the entire working class around the world.
