FISE expresses its solidarity with the students who are struggling in Mexico.

MexicoStudents in Mexico participated in a two-day protest on October 15th and 16th, demanding justice for their 43 fellow students, who were kidnapped, shortly after the murderous police, drug cartels and criminal organizations attack, in view of undermining the student movement.

More specifically, on 27 September, the police attacked the students in, who were protesting in Guerrero, killing 7 of them, injuring 25 and leaving the above mentioned 43 still considered missing, because there is no evidence, proving their location.

Up till now, 34 people have been arrested-26 of them were Iguala police members. In the meantime, warrant arrests have been issued for the city mayor Jose Louis Ambarca and his wife Maria de los Angeles Pinenta.

Students, however, seem to be determined to keep on with their protests until their request is satisfied.

Ebola virus deaths facilitated by imperialism

Only free and public healthcare systems with a focus on prevention can provide an adequate response

The Ebola epidemic that has struck mainly in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea of West Africa and threatens the entire world has killed thousands of people and caused panic to millions of others.

As high level officials of the World Health Organization confess, the epidemic has severely expanded over the last weeks and 70% of the people affected die because of the lack of proper healthcare facilities.

This epidemic brings in the forefront in the most tragic way the chronic and deep wounds in the African Continent by colonialism, by the continuous plundering of the wealth-producing resources and by the high public debts that keep African states and their economies enslaved to the IMF, the World Bank and monopolies cartels.

Crucial problems that in extraordinary conditions such as the one today can create an explosive atmosphere are: The poverty, the malnutrition, the lack of basic healthcare infrastructure and social welfare, the limited access to a system of Public and Free Education capable to eradicate illiteracy and the effect of prejudices and superstitions, the slums that continue to exist being a disgrace for humanity and a danger to public health, the militarization and the state violence that are the answer of the panicked state mechanism.

The World Federation of Trade Unions expresses its indignation at the current situation in the existing healthcare facilities in the abovementioned countries which result in medical personnel offering their services while risking their own lives without any safety measures (gloves, masks). As a result, deaths amongst medical personnel have risen to extreme levels. Continue reading

3 October 2014: INTERNATIONAL ACTION DAY. International, Class-oriented Struggle against Unemployment

The Secretariat of the WFTU chose as central target of the International Action Day 2014 the struggle against UNEMPLOYMENT. This choice was not random. Unemployment is today, the biggest, most dangerous problem for the international working class in the whole capitalist world.
Millions and millions are unemployed, those condemned to poverty who are deprived from even the basics, millions are working slaves in the unregistered labour, in part-time work, in subcontracted work under squalid working and paying conditions. Every family has unemployed members. This makes it a general problem.
The bourgeoisie and their governments take advantage of this problem in favor of their interests. They reduce the salaries, they cut down the social subsidies. They propose a development in favor of monopolies where workers have no rights, bad salaries, no stable working hours, no social security, no specialization.
The Secretariat of the WFTU insists that the struggle against unemployment is a central task for the working class and all the trade union Organizations. Only the class-oriented struggle can create a way out from the current situation in favor of the unemployed, the working people, in favor of the popular strata. Continue reading
