Condolence message for the death of the musician Ηelin Βölek in Turkey after 288 days of hunger strike
The World Federation of Teachers‘ Unions (WFTU), member of WFTU, expresses its condolencies for the death of Ηelin Βölek, member if the music group Group Yorum, who died after 288 days of hunger strike.
We salute with respect the fighter until the end of her life, Helin Bolek. The fighter along with a member of the group Ibrahim Gokcek were on a hunger strike against the prosecustions that were unleashed since 2016 by the Erdogan government against the members of the music group Group Yorum, that lead to the music group being characterised as a terrorist organisation.
WFTU condemns the Erdogan government for attacking the rights of the workers and the people of Turkey, for the arrests, the imprisonment and the torture of fighters, syndicalists, workers, artists and demand the stop of all prosecutions against the fighters, syndicalists, workers in Turkey, who fight for their lives and their rights.
Today, it is necessary for the voices of progressive artists to be heard as it is necessary for more workers and educators to follow their lead.
